What is a Green Travel Plan (GTP)?
A Green Travel Plan (GTP) consists of site-specific options and policies that encourage active, safe and sustainable travel methods to and from your development. This also reduces the reliance on private vehicle usage. Local councils often require GTP to accompany a Sustainable Management Plan (SMP).
Why is a Green Travel Plan (GTP) required?
Some local councils require a Green Travel Plan as it is recognised as one of the best ways to increase active travel around the development.
An effective Green Travel Plan will also benefit the staff, visitors and occupants of the development by:
- Encouraging walking and/or cycling as a primary means of travel
- Reducing traffic and local road congestion
- Improving the environment by reducing carbon emissions from private vehicles
- Creating opportunities for healthier lifestyles
- Developing vibrant, cohesive and accessible communities

Our process for preparing a Green Travel Plan (GTP)
We review the walkability score in the development and assess its distance from surrounding amenities and access to public transport.
Typically, we nominate bicycle spaces as a minimum requirement, but if councils prefer additional amenities we will nominate EV charging, shower facilities, and/or lockers.
Then we showcase amenities surrounding the development, including restaurants, cafes, bike pathways, and walkways. This offers visitors, residents and occupants different sustainable travel methods around the area.
What do we consider when creating a Green Travel Plan (GTP)?
To ensure that we accomplish an effective Green Travel Plan, we consider the following:
Walking and cycling access to local facilities
Access to and options for public transport
Ways to encourage motorbikes or mopeds
